Why a Global Training Initiative?
The WFVS connects representative societies of vascular surgeons whose goals include fostering international scientific discourse for the purpose of advancement of the understanding of vascular disease, sharing knowledge in the development of effective therapies and interventions to treat vascular disease and strategies for training vascular specialists and to do this to benefit patients with vascular disease across the world. We strive to advance the cooperation between national and regional vascular surgical societies, to facilitate the exchange of ideas, to share common experiences and to promote and standardize the education in vascular surgery while encouraging and promoting at an international level, best vascular surgical practice in the management of patients presenting with vascular diseases.
The role of the WFVS is to help form a bridge among its member societies for the improvement of quality in training and the best practices in vascular surgery. We can increase awareness and help other countries with less structured learning platforms. We want to help the “have nots” around the globe to improve care everywhere.
Trainees across the global are experiencing similar issues with bandwidth, mentoring and education. The goal is for the national societies to collaborate and provide resources to trainees on a shared portal/website. The Global Training Initiative provides a forum for discussion involving representative young vascular surgeons or trainees to discuss challenges they face in their career and management of vascular patients.
